Every September, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) focuses on Realtor® safety through classes and eblast reminders. The horror stories and statistics are startling, so I, as a full time Realtor® appreciate these important suggestions on how to stay safe while doing my job.
When I head out to show property in a rural area of our island, I always provide the address to my hubby, Pat. I text him when I arrive and when I leave.
True Stories:
The first time I implemented this safety protocol, I became so engrossed in making my client presentation that I totally forgot to respond to Pat’s numerous texts confirming that I was OK. Suddenly, he rolled into the client’s driveway at a slightly faster speed than appropriate, jumped out of his truck and marched up to the front lanai where I was chatting with my potential seller. I am sure my mouth hung open as I tried to figure out why he was there! Then the lightbulb went on. I had failed to follow the new safety protocol. I wouldn’t make that mistake again…or would I!?
At another listing presentation, I repeated the same offense, so engrossed in learning about the client’s unique property while sharing all about CBIP and the value I bring to my clients. At one point, her dogs started to bark so we looked out her living room window only to see two police cars pull up to the front and park. What the heck was happening? We walked out and they asked me if I was Jen McGeehan. Then, I knew my hubby had called the police to check on me! OMG…how totally embarrassing! I had failed again! He had even called my office trying to track me down. The client was a bit surprised, yet pleased that I had a hubby who cared that much about me.
I have never made the Safety Protocol mistake again!
