The Big Island is not only famous for pristine ocean hues that run the gamut from light aqua to inky blue, landscapes of dark lava rock to dense tropical forests, but also a myriad of visual activity when you simply look up! The night sky is a star gazer’s dream come true. And the more than occasional single and often double rainbows found as you travel to and through Waimea, sunrises along the Hamakua Coast, and spectacular sunsets found up and down the west side command our enjoyment from backyards, to lanai’s, beaches and restaurants!
For my 65th birthday celebration, hubby Pat secured a fabulous two-night stay at the recently remodeled Westin Hapuna Beach Resort located at the lower north end of the Kohala Coast. (We have had weeks of rain in Paauilo. Great for filling up the water tanks and keeping everything lush, but a bit tiring as we slosh through mud and water puddles, always opening the umbrella.) We couldn’t help but be amazed at our panoramic view of the azure seas of the Pacific Ocean…from our upgraded room, to my morning walks to Beach 69, and daily visits to the adult pool and jacuzzi. But it was my special birthday dinner at the Meridia on night one, and then a more casual dinner at the Naupaka Beach Grill night two…both at the Resort, that provided the most amazing sunset views you can imagine. Great visual entertainment at no extra charge!
