In the State of Hawaii, the TMK (Tax Map Key) identifies the location of a property, whether vacant land, condo or home. It is found on the owner’s property tax bill, TMK Report http://www.hawaiipropertytax.com/search.html, and County Records. Let’s use TMK 3-7-4-005-090-0005 as an example. These numbers represent: Island-Zone-Section-Plat-Parcel-CPR (if there is a condo).
I always provide the TMK Big Island Map for all my buyer clients, specifically those who are considering moving to this paradise. It is totally normal for clients to find a property listed on Zillow, Realtor.com, and other sites, yet have no idea where it is located on the island. Because we have a total of nine districts, 4026 square miles of land mass, and eleven of the thirteen micro-climates, it is very important to identify which areas of the island meet my client’s criteria, then focus on those areas. By referring to the TMK Map, it is easy to see if a potential listing is in the right area for the client search.
